Angela Evelyn Bassett, an American actress is well known for her roles in film and television in the latter half of the 1980s. The actress has won numerous accolades such as the Golden Globe Award, and sixteen NAACP Image Awards. In the last decade she has been working on film and television. She's received numerous awards including the 16 NAACP Image Awards. Bassett was raised in New York New York and fostered by an aunt who lived in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Her mother split with her father when she was approximately five. She and her younger sister later relocated to St. Petersburg Florida with their mother. Bassett was a fan of James Earl Jones in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men play when she was in high school, and realised that acting is what she wanted to do. She attended Yale University New Haven Connecticut receiving a bachelor's degree (1980) on African American studies and a master's degree (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. At Yale she came across Courtney B. Vance a co-actor and they were married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. In African-American Studies, 1981. Graduate in Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama School.
