Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding the piano in her attic then becoming enthralled by the sound it made. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to play music only for fun or as a means of growing, but that she must take it seriously. For this reason, she began writing original compositions. In addition to Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. The singer decided to perform the songs she wrote publicly after her mom suggested they could help people not gain acclaim for her work but to make the people around them understand their importance and the ways they impact the world. She started playing piano at age six and making music when she was 9 years old. This was not known by her family until she turned fourteen. Aurora never dreamed of being a famous singer. She claims that she enjoys writing songs. Music is her preferred method to feel anything.
